Miltonesque: The Boobs That Didn’t Belong to Anybody
An illuminating moment for me came at my post-op party. We called it a “boob party” and spent the night celebrating chests. Everyone brought magazine clippings or photos of chests and we pasted them on the wall in the stairwell. We kept a running list of all the euphemisms for chests we could think of on the whiteboard usually reserved for intra-apartment communications like We need milk and Has anyone seen my watch? and HEY GUYS I LET THE CATS PEE ON THE SOFA (just kidding it’s water).

At this party, every guest was invited to wear whatever made their chest feel good. Some went topless, some chose corsets—we even supplied glitter-encrusted adhesive craft foam for those who wanted to make pasties (the majority of our guests chose this option, which was just another sign that my life is nothing like what my guidance counselors envisioned).

*flop* I definitely ran out of spoons for socializing. I'm still suffering those effects.

Stuff that happened: I met a bunch of people! Including [personal profile] zeenell in meatspace for the first time, [personal profile] viklikesfic, [personal profile] cesy, [personal profile] cinco, [livejournal.com profile] eleanor_lavish, [livejournal.com profile] schuyler, [personal profile] melannen, [personal profile] libitina, [personal profile] merisunshine36, and lots of other people.

A+++ con, would attend again. (Already preregistered for 2012!)

No pictures today; my outfit was kind of boring. Pinstripe pants and a Threadless shirt. (I will try to get up a picture of my jacket, though, because it's fucking cool. Black, with larger versions of these clasps.)

The good news is that the next few days may be warm enough for me to wear some of the cute stuff I picked out. And I have actual reasons for leaving the house, which forces me to put clothes on. \o/

Plans! I am having a busy weekend, it looks like. Friday night is Slutbutter, because Cameryn Moore (most of my weekend is because Cameryn Moore). Saturday, I want to go to Sowa Open Market, and then Ellie and I are heading out to Wilmington again for roller derby. Sunday is the Flea at MIT again (note to self: visit ATM beforehand), and then Phone Whore, and then Fuckbucket.

My Monday is currently 100% empty, and I am going to nap hard, motherfuckers. I will have earned it.

I'm actually pondering pruning my dreamroll... so I suppose this would be a good time to declare amnesty: if you're tired of my face or my links or my frequency of posting or my whatever, you can unsubscribe!

1. If there are things you want to know about me, ask them! I will compile an answers post soon (either after the last paper of the semester is done, or when I need a break from actually working on it).

2. The location of the LJ affiliate script has changed. Since the script messes up ctrl-click/right-click, [personal profile] jonquil suggests two fixes. [personal profile] xenacryst explains the security issue with giving up control over one's outbound links.

3. Closet cleaning challenge in [community profile] homeeconomics101. I got started with this a couple of weeks ago, but it kind of fizzled. I have a bunch of stuff to get rid of, and I still have to go through half my closet and both my dressers (yes, both. Shut up, I have a lot of clothes.)

4. Apparently, I am attending a Priscilla, Queen of the Desert party tonight.

If you used the opt-out I linked yesterday, you might want to go back and do it again. Turns out it's set opt_exclude_stats 1.

Roller derby: awesome! We had to learn the rules and scoring practices through osmosis (and really could not hear the commentators well at all). We also ate some fried dough (truth in advertising!), which was basically a large flat beignet. Nomnomnom.

This morning, we went to the Flea at MIT. The original plan was for me to take the train; Ellie was driving but she had already promised every possible seat in her car to people from Wireless Club. But two cancellations later, I had a ride, yay.

Here are pictures of the things I got! Since I, uh, don't know what some of these doodads are called.
Not that it matters that much. I'm just going to wrap them in wire anyway. )

Related to Dreamwidth swag, [personal profile] damned_colonial explains how to get different colors and styles of t-shirt on Zazzle. Can be generalized to the rest of Zazzle, including other, non-clothing products.

[personal profile] rydra_wong: LJ is again tampering with your links to insert its own affiliate codes. This is the opt-out from the last round of affiliate-link shenanigans, and it seems to still work.

On today's agenda: roller derby! Ellie and I are stopping at some woodworking store on the way. Her tools already equal or exceed the value of her car, but she still doesn't have everything she needs. (In addition to set-building/theater tech and fine furniture, she plans to move into the woods one day and build her own house, and take a whole bunch of her friends who want lots of big dogs/unrestricted nudity/etc. with her.)

At some point, Ellie is going to build me a new garment rack. I had a mass-produced plastic/metal one, but it broke under the weight of my clothes. The new one will be made of two-by-fours and an oak dowel.

I have 10 invite codes! (They were distributed to [personal profile] lissa_and_kitty, who is fictional and has little use for them.) Follow Friday: "Here's the plan: every Friday, let's recommend some people and/or communities to follow on Dreamwidth. That's it. No complicated rules, no "pass this on to 7.328 friends or your cat will die". Just introduce us to some new things to read."

Any Boston-area folks want to see Thursday with me at the Palladium? May 1st. Would be helpful if you have a car, since I won't be able to drive by then.*

* Yeah, I know. Ellie has convinced me. I get my learner's permit, she teaches me, I get an actual license, I sign up for Zipcar, I drive her around when she needs to buy GIANT pieces of wood.**

** We have a pretty nice woodworking shop in the basement now. Also some apparently very laid-back landlords.

Best of 2009

December 5th: Night out.

Okay, so. I have had a lot of really good nights out. And in, for that matter. So fuck that "best" shit - I cannot choose.

December 6th: Workshop or conference.

Uh. MJ or TIC. It's not like I go to that many conferences. Both were awesome, but for different reasons.

Today, Ellie and I will be doing stuff. People will be flyering Bazaar Bizarre, so we'll take a shift at that. And we might go to H&M, because she needs clothes.

I once had to take my glasses off to get a former professor to recognize me. o_O

Take action to save the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program.

Ellie is apparently making duck gumbo for Thanksgiving because A) fuck turkey anyway and B) we will be feeding probably more people than a single roast duck would satisfy.

[personal profile] shadesong/[livejournal.com profile] shadesong is looking for people to make t-shirts for the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center's Clothesline Project.

She says:
The Clothesline Project is for survivors of rape, sexual assault, incest, domestic violence, any kind of sexual violence, but can also be for loved ones of survivors; there are shirts by parents, partners, and friends of survivors. (Note: I am hoping for shirts from male survivors and anyone else whose experience challenges people's assumptions of "the typical rape victim", but I will take any shirt you want to make.)
This shirt-making event will take place at Shadesong's house at a time to be determined. They're also looking into ways for non-local survivors to contribute.

[staff profile] mark did a code push last night. To set a sticky post, you can choose any existing post and enter its URL or ID at the bottom of the Display settings page. Crossposting from clients should now work, although I haven't mucked around with it since I don't use a client. There are also a bunch of new themes.

Fall Out Boy show last night was good. So glad I ran into [livejournal.com profile] insunshine, [livejournal.com profile] gigantic and [livejournal.com profile] 1001cranes.

Hey Monday were all right. I like Cassadee's voice, but only when she's singing. Metro Station were fun. I thought their setup was kind of weird. All Time Low were all right musically, but all signs point to them being douchebags, so no. Cobra Starship were tons of fun, as always, but Gabe really needs to stop touring for a while and take care of his voice, dammit. Fall Out Boy were pretty good, and they played a nice set. The screens kind of confused me, but I guess it's better than the fucking wall of fire they had last time I saw them (I was surprised that Andy didn't melt on that tour, tbh).

Just glanced at a picture of this guy I went to school with in New Orleans (ah, facebook, how useful you are), and he looks kind of a lot like Joe. Heh.

... and using subject lines:

1. Today is my mother's birthday.

2. I need to buy a new alarm clock. I somehow managed to break mine. :( I didn't even have it for more than a couple of months.

3. I am looking for podfic recs! I often have the opportunity to listen to my ipod at work, but I spend too much time fiddling with it whenever it plays a song I don't like, and I suck at playlists. But today I listened to [livejournal.com profile] inkjunket's reading of [livejournal.com profile] sevenfists's The Sky-High City and it was awesome. Just what I needed.

So, yes. Ur podfics, give them to me. Bandom preferred, but feel free to take this as an opportunity to recruit me into your fandom via ficcy goodness.

4. How much do I love Firefox's search capabilities? I found the links in #3 so quickly in my bookmarks/history.

5. I really need to import/upload/redo my tags and icons. But I need to catch up on writing even more.

It's been a pretty busy few days...

Stuff for making jewelry arrived Friday morning, but the gold and silver colored wire doesn't match the plated findings, so I have to send it back and invest in gold-filled and sterling wire. Friday night, I partied with my classmates from the poetry workshop. Saturday and Sunday were the Skillshare.

Friday: Symposium )

I staggered through the door around three in the morning and woke up pretty late on Saturday.

Saturday: Skillshare day 1 )

I chatted with my parents for a little while, then nabbed some Popeyes and went home.

Sunday: Skillshare day 2 )

I went home a little after ten and managed to get lost on my way back to Shawmut, so I called my parents and had them read directions to me over the phone. When I got home, I finished my work for my sociology class, then checked my email and found a Dreamwidth invite code.

And here I am.

One of my brother's friends gave him a wifi detecting t-shirt. It lights up. I'm not even kidding.

My mom dropped her phone in the sink, but Dad took it apart right away and dried it out and it's working again.

FedEx says our package from home was delivered to the back door today. Uh, no it wasn't. It's either at someone else's house (fail, delivery guy) or someone stole it. And will probably be disappointed unless they actually wanted a shitload of peanut butter crackers that have probably been recalled, and other similarly inexpensive stuff.

Today I have written 1100+ words in a document called idfic. Urgh. Why can't I be inspired to work on something that doesn't make me cringe in embarrassment??

... but there's no way I would be coherent. Suffice to say, I had a fucking amazing time, both nights.

I am liking my job so far, although I need to get them to schedule me for some more hours. So far, I have checked one collection against its finding aid (some stuff missing, and two extra things not listed), interfiled stuff in boxes of negatives (holy shit are those heavy; somebody is supposed to move that whole collection into smaller boxes, and it may fall to me), and helped hunt through another collection for two missing folders (not found).

And now about my classes. )

Getting started on my day an hour later than I had planned. (Fuck you, migraine!)

Dyed my hair yesterday. I think that's why I had the initial headache - noxious fumes.

Also, I have figured out that the main trigger for my odd brand of migraine is Prior Headache That I Tried To Treat With The Wrong NSAID. /o\
