Logging into Dreamwidth using OpenID
Instructions are tailored for LiveJournal users, but should be fairly similar for users of clone sites which support OpenID.
1. On the front page, there's a link which reads Log in with OpenID?. Click it.
2. There's a text entry box labeled "Your OpenID URL:" - type your journal's address, e.g. sofiaviolet.livejournal.com.
NB: If your username begins or ends with an underscore, enter your URL like this: http://users.livejournal.com/_sofiaviolet_/. (Usernames which contain several underscores, e.g. sofia__violet, can use URLs in the form of sofia--violet.livejournal.com.)
3. Clicking the Login button will bring you to a page with a URL that starts http://www.livejournal.com/openid/approve.bml. If you're not already logged into LiveJournal, do that now.
4. LiveJournal asks if you want to pass on your identity. Choose from the following:
4.1 "Yes; just this time." You will be logged into Dreamwidth using OpenID. When you log out and log back in, you will return to this step and given this choice again.
4.2 "Yes; always." You will be logged into Dreamwidth using OpenID. When you log out and log back in, you will skip this step. You can undo this selection on the OpenID Options page.
4.3 "No." You will not be logged into Dreamwidth using OpenID.
5. Assuming you clicked one of the "yes" buttons, you'll be redirected to a Dreamwidth page with a success message such as "You're logged in as
sofiaviolet.livejournal.com."
6. Congrats. It worked. Have fun.
