Interview went well, whee!

  • Bostonography: Three-decker diffusion
I have a fondness for triple-deckers now that I live in one.

  • [personal profile] synecdochic: [fic] P3, "on a bed where the moon has been sweating"
Go. Read. You don't need to know anything about the fandom or the characters to love this.

  • The Pursuit of Harpyness: bisexual invisibility: a new report
The San Francisco Human Rights Commission LGBT Advisory Committee has recently released a report, Bisexual Invisibility: Impacts and Recommendations (PDF) that reviews the existing research on bisexuality as a sexual orientation and discusses the experience of bisexuals within the queer community and society at large.
  • [personal profile] cluegirl: An Open Letter to the Men of America and the World, on the Subject of My Feminism;
In short, gentlemen of the world, I am a feminist because I respect you more than the society in which we live respects you. And because I see no reason whatsoever why you could not, or should not live up to that respect. Some of you do so, and regularly. Some of you exceed my respect, and impress me all the time. But others of you persist in coasting along at the level of the lowest common denominator, making cheap jokes, taking cheap shots, settling for cheap sexual encounters, and generally cheapening yourselves for the illusion of tribal acceptance, for the notion that the bros will somehow back you up when it counts, and so the hos don't matter much. Even though you know, deep down, that you're better than that.

I know you're better than that too, and I will accept no bullshite excuses for acting like a coward, like a bully, like a jerk, like a rapist, like a liar, like a user, like a player, like a creep. You're better than that, and I will accept nothing less than your best from you.

And that is why I will always be a feminist.

Meanwhile, I'm on the lookout for Dreamwidth users who have Etsy shops -- it doesn't matter what you sell, as long as it's handcrafted of some sort. I'd like to put together a showcase of DW users' creativity -- it's really easy for us to show off writers (of both fiction and nonfiction) on DW, since the tools we have for sharing and promoting writing are fairly well developed, but [staff profile] mark and I always wanted DW to be a place to showcase all kinds of creativity, from writing to craft to photography to just plain chronicling your life, and I'd really like to start doing some work to promote the non-written forms of creative work our users get up to.
    • Related to the above: [community profile] etsy! My comm, which I have thrown into the ring in support of Denise's endeavor. Join, tell me what kinds of things you would want out of such a community, make posts... I will gladly take on co-mods if people want to get involved on that level.

I can haz purple hair! No pictures yet because I am lazy, but it does not suck. (The purple streak does fade rather quickly to nearly black as you move away from my scalp, but given how many times it had been dyed before these shenanigans, I can't say I'm surprised.)

Have been approved to take another week off work, sometime between mid October and Thanksgiving (has to be before Thanksgiving because $winterholiday retail season is likely to constrain the amount of time C. has for me). Now to find a suitably cheap plane ticket. On the one hand, yay I get to see my boyfriend again! On the other... and then I won't see him until some time in 2011.

[personal profile] copperbadge: It did get me thinking about fanfic in a slightly more abstracted way, and about why this current debate over it really enrages me so much. I don't normally weigh in on wanky matters, so to get me to make a statement about it, it must really have got under my skin. Now I think I know why.

Hi! The [community profile] kink_bingo mods asked me to write an essay as part of the lead-up to the next round. You'll be seeing several more pieces in the coming days.

I told the mods I'd write about my own kink practice and how that relates to my interaction with kink fic. Which is of course a lot easier to say than to do.

I took some nyquil a few hours ago because I think I have a cold. It has helped with the epic sneezefest, but now I feel really fuzzy. Apparently, it takes a full dose of nyquil to make me feel like I do at three in the morning (see icon); if I take just one gelcap, I can pretty much function normally.

sofiaviolet: welcome to bandom - no, you're not dreaming (bandom)
There was this fic, and I cannot remember who wrote it or what it was called.

It's Frank/Gerard. Gerard is working in the city, and there's a cute guy he sees every morning on his commute (pretty sure it's a train, not a ferry). One of the guys winds up answering a craigslist ad from the other one, and they strike up this email friendship. Gerard eventually realizes that his train buddy and email guy are the same person, and he freaks out. Frank has been doing an internship and his final project or whatever is to put together a music showcase. He invites Gerard on the train and by email. Gerard dithers a lot but finally goes, and then there is the happy ending.

????? I really want to reread this one right now. Anyone have a link, title, or author name?
