This is a happy post.
Tuesday, December 15th, 2009 17:55(Context: my sister works for a company whose main thing is superbatteries of the future, or something. Charge faster, last longer, don't explode - that kind of thing. And she's in the market for a new phone since hers (which used to be mine, and is about 4 years old) no longer has any battery life to speak of. And it's a phone shaped much like the one in the photo.)
And now that I've killed the joke with explanation...

( My weekend: naked people and nearly-naked people. )
I am caught up on email, twitter, and journals I read via Dreamwidth. I'm still not caught up on comms/feeds read via DW or anything through LJ. I am hoping to make a post about what I have actually been doing with my time, but that will have to wait until tomorrow, because...

I have some Google Wave invites, should anyone out there want one. Or leave me your username so I can add you to my contacts. I am sofiaviolet, because I am most predictablest. Comments are screened.
$winterholiday card requests are still open! And if you have posted a wishlist somewhere, please link me to it. :D?

Today is Dad's birthday. (I am not actually sure if he still reads this. Mom does. I already said 'happy birthday' on the phone, but it doesn't hurt to mention it again.)
I've bugged my honors advisor again, about the junior/senior project this time. It's not a requirement for the honors program (one can earn a course distinction and/or project distinction, and I'm on track for the former), so unless the history department will let me count it as my capstone, I don't think I'll do it. The effort:tangible-benefit ratio just isn't good enough.
( blah blah spring blah )
Why yes, yes that is two days off and no class earlier than half past one in the afternoon. *smugface*
It begins.
Friday, October 23rd, 2009 11:16I haven't had a chance to read anyone's posts, DW or LJ, since Thursday morning, though I did skim a bit. I have barely had time to check my email. Assume I will be unavailable until Sunday evening.

Relatedly, I need to find some time to bring my laptop to the Apple store. The comma key isn't working properly (I have to bang really hard to get it to type the necessary character), which makes it hard to do anything requiring angle brackets, either. Or any wordcount-boosting writing.
I think prying off the key cover and cleaning under it would fix the problem, but I don't want to do it myself, since last time I tried that, I couldn't get the cover back on and had to bring it in anyway.

I have a half-completed painting that I will finish in the next couple of days. The final version will be posted on the meme and in my journal, of course, but I have taken some in-progress pictures and I might post them too.
Other news: I got my randomized-text code working in my Dreamwidth layout. Left sidebar, down below the little pink rose. :) Only works for account levels with access to advanced customization/layers, though. I've typed up a tutorial for it, but I want to sleep on it in case my directions suck or something.

I'm going to try doing a bit of support - I helped out at random on LJ's support boards for a while, so I'm not completely clueless, but I'm definitely not an expert.
Tangentially, I had to teach my mother what a cut tag does last night, via telephone. *facepalm* I thought she knew! Hopefully she hasn't missed out on too much of my content since she started reading my journal.
Good morning, internets.
Friday, May 1st, 2009 11:44I agonized over it for a while, but now I have a seed account. I'll be playing paid account fairy with my friends in the near future.
Now I should eat some lunch.
On Dreamwidth, and how to get an account.
Tuesday, April 28th, 2009 11:40Signing in with your OpenID will also allow you to test out most of Dreamwidth's features (though not posting, crossposting, or importing, sorry), which can help you decide what you want to do with your invite.
![[site community profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/comm_staff.png)
I will also have some invites to hand out come the 30th, but I have no clue how many.

I will continue to crosspost to LJ, with comments redirected to Dreamwidth.
So far I have been granting access and subscribing liberally; I expect my reading and access lists to shrink once I get some time to evaluate them. I also expect to put access filters into place eventually. I do not plan to use reading filters (though I'm pretty sure they're not available yet), ever.
I am making an effort to post publicly whenever possible, so that I don't need to concern myself too much with access or filters.
As I try to keep myself in the swing of updating often...
Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009 23:301. Today is my mother's birthday.
2. I need to buy a new alarm clock. I somehow managed to break mine. :( I didn't even have it for more than a couple of months.
3. I am looking for podfic recs! I often have the opportunity to listen to my ipod at work, but I spend too much time fiddling with it whenever it plays a song I don't like, and I suck at playlists. But today I listened to

So, yes. Ur podfics, give them to me. Bandom preferred, but feel free to take this as an opportunity to recruit me into your fandom via ficcy goodness.
4. How much do I love Firefox's search capabilities? I found the links in #3 so quickly in my bookmarks/history.
5. I really need to import/upload/redo my tags and icons. But I need to catch up on writing even more.

Monday, April 20th, 2009 13:08Stuff for making jewelry arrived Friday morning, but the gold and silver colored wire doesn't match the plated findings, so I have to send it back and invest in gold-filled and sterling wire. Friday night, I partied with my classmates from the poetry workshop. Saturday and Sunday were the Skillshare.
( Friday: Symposium )
I staggered through the door around three in the morning and woke up pretty late on Saturday.
( Saturday: Skillshare day 1 )
I chatted with my parents for a little while, then nabbed some Popeyes and went home.
( Sunday: Skillshare day 2 )
I went home a little after ten and managed to get lost on my way back to Shawmut, so I called my parents and had them read directions to me over the phone. When I got home, I finished my work for my sociology class, then checked my email and found a Dreamwidth invite code.
And here I am.

Monday, August 11th, 2008 22:39So it's off for repairs, and I don't know when I'll get it back. I'm hoping for some time next week and fearing that's too optimistic.
I am checking my email once or twice a day, but I'm not going to be reading my flist until I get my own computer back. I'll try to catch up then, but no guarantees.
... oh, who am I kidding? Yes, I'll catch up, although it might take me anywhere from a couple of days to the better part of a week, depending on what else is going on.
ETA: Wow, I'm all kinds of dumb lately. I never actually posted about this. But yeah, in a stunning display of fail, I dumped about three ounces of water on my laptop on July 27th. It finally gave up the ghost on August 8th.
Let’s see how this goes.
Saturday, March 22nd, 2008 17:24Yeah, didn’t get much writing done on Friday. Or today, for that matter, although there are still some hours left during which I might accomplish something. Although chances are it’ll be something to do with mysql. (I’m hoping to keep the amount of Dad-pestering to a minimum. Yes, he knows a lot about sql. No, he does not have endless time to teach me.)
There’s a post about race bouncing around inside my head. I ought to get it out. The people I see every day, who I’ll sit next to on the T if given half a chance, the subconscious assumptions I make.
synecdochic wants your thoughts on a hypothetical new journaling service and
elsejournal could be interesting. In the meantime, all content will originate here and get crossposted to LJ and IJ.

First day of the semester was pretty ordinary.
pearl_o is running a very casual, low-pressure xkcd fic challenge! This has the potential to be ridiculously awesome.
Note to Mom: got the card today. Thanks!
I am looking at vintage eyewear on ebay. There are some very nifty frames indeed, and I could probably do with a second pair of glasses (because I really like these frames too! they are purple!). I could actually get Transitions lenses! I have never had them before because they take forever to go back to normal when you go inside, and knowing me I would fall down some stairs or something because I couldn’t see in the dim. I am tragically uncoordinated. /o\ And carting the spare pair around shouldn’t be a problem - I manage to remember my epipen, and my wallet, and my keys, and my Sidekick. Every single day. \o/ (This is what I meant about not being a grown up. I would misplace body parts if they weren’t all attached to one another, seriously.)
Note to Dad: where the heck do you buy those eyeglasses repair kits? One of the screws keeps coming loose and I need one of those itty bitty screwdrivers.
Also, hey, you guys should come and stalk me other places on the internets! (Note to Mom and Dad: I use “stalk” in jest.)

Frustrations and noncompliance.
Saturday, January 5th, 2008 22:38I still have the same sore throat/cough/congestion that I’ve been dealing with for-fucking-ever. Argh. I’ve been sleeping twelve hours a day and not getting any better.
And that sleep schedule makes it really fucking hard to take my meds twice a day like I’m supposed to. Wellbutrin makes it harder for me to fall asleep, so I don’t take it within a couple of hours of when I plan to go to bed. Then I ran out and ran into insurance problems. I did get a partial refill that will get me through Monday, by which time the insurance bullshit ought to be sorted.
So it’s been a shitty few days. I didn’t spend as much time with Cory as I might have otherwise, and I’ve been doing a whole lot of nothing. I did manage to get a Wordpress blog set up, and I did a crapload of behind-the-scenes stuff on all parts of my site (managed to fix the problem where trying to access sofiaviolet.com/foo without the trailing slash redirected to sofiaviolet.nfshost.com/foo/, and now I don’t have ten thousand files all called index.html), and I added little bits of stuff and fixed broken links at Auriel. Because that’s all I can accomplish when I feel blah. (I did a huge amount of the work on my site when I was depressed last year. I’d work until the wee hours, and then not get up for class. *headdesk*)
I set my alarm clock today. Got up three minutes before it went off. \o/ I’ll get up even earlier tomorrow, and on Monday I’ll be able to make it to class!

As far as lyrics suitable for journal subtitles, Fall Out Boy beats My Chemical Romance - but there are still a lot of other bands' stuff to go through.

I am supposed to be writing another poem for class, right? And instead I sat down and wrote lyrics. A full, complete song. Needs cleaning up like whoa and it'll still be ridiculous, but whatever. And there are other songs rattling around in my head. Other complete songs, way more than two clever lines and a title.
Apparently this is what I do when I get into a band or bands more intensely than usual. I wrote a lot of shitty lyrics when I was sixteen; over the summer I copied the least shitty parts into my journal so I could raid them for Stuff. And now I'm writing them from the ground up again.
Probably the wankiest, most self-indulgent, least reasonable kind of writing that happens to me. It's fun though.
