Next time I want to take a linguistics course, remind me that transcribing is a pain in the ass.

23:55 down, a minimum of 6:05 to go. By tomorrow.

Honda Civic Tour dates - the real ones this time

So there is a show in Louisiana, but it's nowhere near New Orleans and it's also during exam week. So there goes my plan to drag my mom along for the ride.

Reading the comments, I get the impression that half the venues are amazing and the other half are appalling.

ETA: Shit I think I have a sinus infection. At least it's just icky snot, and not actual pain?
sofiaviolet: i blame fandom (I blame fandom.)
Symptoms include flu-like aches (or, more accurately, I feel a little like I got hit by somebody's tour bus) and a sore throat so bad it hurts to breathe. I can't tell if I have a fever because I don't know where the thermometer is (or if we even own one).

In better news, here's a track-by-track review of Panic's new album.
sofiaviolet: 7-day candles (candles)

It’s Blog For Choice day. It sneaks up on me every year; I don’t know about it until someone else on my friendslist posts about it. I would love to have something intelligent to say, but I feel like I have nothing new to add.

I will, however, link you to jezrana’s post. Her experience is very different from mine (my Catholic school was firmly in the “Jesus loves you, let’s watch some animated Bible stories” camp, and I transferred for seventh grade anyway), but I agree with her that in an ideal world, abortion would be (mostly, at least) unnecessary - birth control would be fully accessible and everyone would understand it, and rape wouldn’t exist. But we don’t live in the best of all possible worlds, not by a long shot. So.

And looneyluna says: “Reproductive rights are about you.”

This whole post is great, but my favorite part is number 9. I haven’t debated abortion since the issue of penalties for women who have abortions came to my attention, but I’m just waiting for the chance. (Although, seriously, I try to stay out of shit like that. I get angry enough that I start to black out; if I ever get past that - well, I’ve never thrown a punch in my life, but no time like the present…)

I’m considering getting involved with the Papercut Zine Library, seeing as they’re looking for volunteers.

I love my Language and Gender class, I really do. I am probably one of the people with the best background in the gender issues we’re discussing this week (establishing some sort of common knowledge about that stuff before we actually delve into linguistics); all of the readings were nothing new to me.

Also, I got full marks on a paper by referencing: certain of my internet friends, gender-neutral pronouns, riot grrl, bandom, the recent debate about the term “female space,” Coffeetablegate, and the surrounding discussion of our tendency to forgive our boys for a heck of a lot that we would hold anyone else accountable for. In more or less that order.

In short, I am ridiculous.

sofiaviolet: welcome to bandom - no, you're not dreaming (bandom)
I am eagerly anticipating the fic that will result from [livejournal.com profile] bandombigbang!

for my parents, who are into Cobra Starship:
music video for The City Is At War
music video for Guilty Pleasure
Sass Attack

[livejournal.com profile] bandcon! [livejournal.com profile] bandcon! [livejournal.com profile] bandcon!

I don't have anything coherent to say about the Really Really Ridiculously Good-Looking Weekend. In essence, Cobras \o/ (is there a fangs up emoticon?) and I found three new bands to listen to. Traveling with friends is fun, but I should probably plan certain practical things better.

The only fail here is that I've actually been working on this post since Wednesday.
sofiaviolet: no power in the 'verse can stop me. ('verse)
So the writing continues at a furious pace. I wrote 3000 words on my computer today, plus fuck knows how many in my journal (about four 8 1/2 x 11 pages, in teeny tiny print).

Expect small storybits to be posted soonish.

things that will have a negative impact on storybit posting
* 10-15 page paper this weekend
* Italian final
* final project and mini-papers for "food class"
* potentially my creative writing portfolio, I don't know how much revision my professor's going to demand
* take-home final for gender&society

things that will actually have a positive impact on storybit posting
* all of the above actually isn't that much and most of it will be done within the next week
* working exam week (there's a rush at the beginning of each shift with people coming in to take their exams, and then it's dead for the next four hours)

Also, when I attempted NaNo in 2004, I created a number of characters who were later abandoned. One of them was a drummer named Patrick. I don't remember a thing about him; I just made him up so another character would have someone to crush on. I'm going to bring him back, both because it amuses me and because I do actually need at least one more character who can play.

Cobra Starship presale info!
Ok girls, let's get serious for a minute: so the point of the Really Really Ridiculously Good-Looking Tour is to help people. What people? I don't know, people who need help.

But honestly, we wanted our first headline tour to be an intimate and unforgettable experience. So we booked the shows in small venues (most of them without barricades) and we made the tickets really cheap so that everyone could come. We think (and obviously hope) that most of these shows will sell out, but we want to make sure that our die-hard fans get to see us. So we are doing a special pre-order just for you guys this Tuesday (11/27) at 5pm. If you pre-order you, not only will you be guaranteed entry into the most ridiculously good-looking tour ever, but you will also get a limited edition tour poster to hang on your wall and show off to your poseur little cousin during the holidays. ;)

Here is the link: click! click! shoot em up yeah!

Get em while they're hot, because: just because we have chiseled abs and stunning features, doesn't mean that we too can't not die in a freak gasoline fight accident.

Fangs Up

I can has concert buddies?

... SHIT! I meant to give Mom my copy of Viva La Cobra before she left. I guess it can be care package times now.

ETA: I think this is the most comments I have ever had to a post, haha. Fangirls FTW!!!! ♥
sofiaviolet: lol internets (lol internets)
I kind of fail at updating my LJ when I'm working my ass off for NaNo. On the other hand, I wrote 10000 words in four days and I'm caught up. \o/

42573 / 50000 words. 85% done!

Also, I've seen this meme going around (poke me if you posted it and I forgot to ask you something):
[Poll #1095127]

Also, I am probably the last person to post about this because I am always the last one on the fucking bandwagon (see above meme), but... ahahaha, Cobra Starship reads fanfic about themselves. On their tour bus. Over cocoa. &Cobras; I'm with all the people wondering what secret stash of CS fic they've found. Also I need to upload a Cobra Starship icon.

Yes, someone texted that to the bigass screens at the arena. Twice.

In conclusion: A+ would do again and again. Also, more fan gatherings kthnx.

Um, I fail at LJ, sorry. I slept and slept and slept when I got back from MCR, and then I saw TAI... in Providence yesterday. So here's my Wednesday and Thursday - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to follow in a separate post to avoid teal deer.

If you're wondering about the subject line, it's a result of a conversation I had with Kitty and Ness at one in the morning in a cafe in New York City.

I'm sorry I didn't make any phone posts from MCR. For about half the show, I couldn't even reach my cell phone, and then I was sure it would get knocked out of my hands if I tried to do anything.

The basics of this post were originally written in my journal at about 2:30 in a subway station in New York City, as was the cut text.

I lost my tiara and very nearly my glasses, my feet have moved past agony into the throbbing that means they can't process the pain, I am sweaty and smelly and Frank Iero spit on me. I haven't slept since 6:30 AM Tuesday and I won't sleep for hours and hours yet. I am fucked up. And I am happy. )

My Italian prof. decided this Thursday would be a splendid day for a test. *sigh*

I got Viva La Cobra and polaroid #236 in the mail today. \o/ I will scan the polaroid if anyone wants to see. I also got some new loafers, because my current pair are very old and the treads have completely worn off.

Is it can be naptiemz now. zzzz

• Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] kisingchaos9 and [livejournal.com profile] ladysorka!!!!

• I have completed my take-home midterm for Gender & Society. I think I accidentally went over the time limit, but that's just what happens with me (at least when I manage to focus on something).

• Directly related to the above, I'm stimulated again with regard to that semi-academic bandom thing I said I was going to write. I'll jot down my thoughts over the next few days, try to give it some structure.

• Note to self: "brb, South Station at ass crack of dawn."

• MBTA trip planner hates me. :(

• As a result, I'm going to actually go to South Station at the ass crack of dawn tomorrow, because I need to see what time I can get there by. Then I will go to campus and hang around the library until class. \o/ I am insanely devoted.

• Or perhaps just insane. Even more insane than you're probably thinking. All shall be revealed in due course. *mysterious*
sofiaviolet: a laptop, a notebook, and lots of pencils (writing)
No progress on Warped Omens since yesterday - I'm not turning that in for class so it's on the back burner until Tuesday. Sorry, guys.

“You’re older than Piper. Still younger than I’d hoped, though.”

Al: less freaked out about being five years older than Sam than he ought to be (also, world's cuddliest gangster)
Sam: amused and flattered (also, thinks Al looks cute in his friends' bands' merch)

Word count: 2961
Pages: 11/~15
Plot: Next up: Nicolas throws a party, Sam's parents are Not Pleased, and some kind of resolution.
Chances I'll beat the supposed minimum of 15 pages: 92.6%

Also, I now have a MacBook winging its way to me. ^-^ Mom may want my iBook, or I might wind up selling it, she hasn't made up her mind yet.

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] dexwebster!
sofiaviolet: loose tweets sink fleets (this is my twitter icon)
Short story is due Tuesday. I meant to turn in Blood Is Sweeter, but the story I have wound up writing is set a few years earlier than Blood Is Sweeter (and a few years after other stuff I'm working on), and could possibly be soundtracked exclusively by Cobra Starship (in fact, I may title it The City Is At War).

Word count: 2236
Page count: 8/~15
Plot: Sam and Al have met and are flirting. Soon to come: a lunch not-really-a-date, a party that makes the papers, a parental freakout, a lunch really-is-a-date, angst and makeouts.

In other writing news, here's the tentative dramatis personae for the story tentatively titled Warped Omens.

sofiaviolet: the problem with reality is the lack of background music (background music)
I went to the Wendy's on Mass Ave for lunch (I prefer it to the one in Curry because a. you can get a smaller fry with combos which means I actually eat all the food I buy and b. they have a ketchup dispenser instead of handing over like three packets when you ask). So I was sitting there, eating french fries and staring blankly at the icky grey day, when I hear something that sounds kind of familiar. It's Dance, Dance!

And if that didn't put enough of a smile on my face, then the guy who looked just like Nate from Cobra Starship would have. He walked by right in the middle of the song.

In reference to my previous post, I just overheard a line of conversation about the Beatles as the apocalyptic horsepersons. Apparently today is the day for a rockalypse. Or something.
sofiaviolet: drawing of three violets and three leaves (Default)
My new rule of thumb for laptops is: each new laptop's hard drive should be at least 5 times larger than its predecessor's. Current iBook (aka SATAN) has a hard drive 4 times bigger than First iBook, and I have run out of room with over a year left of my extended warranty. *headdesk*

I wrote my composition for Italian this morning, on no breakfast and not enough sleep. I had to google "so" and "same" for fuck's sake. So glad my job interview had to be rescheduled, not so glad that this delays gainful employment of me for at least a few days.

Apparently today is World Mental Health Day or something. Um. Thank god for the posts about it on my flist, otherwise I might've walked out of the house sans crazymeds. Speaking of which, I've been instructed to actually carry some Wellbutrin with me, in case I am out later than I expect or (far more likely) forget to take the morning dose and only realize it when the train pulls into Aquarium and I'm already running five minutes late to class.

To summarize:
Things Sofia's brain is good at: writing, remembering certain kinds of trivia and also song lyrics, keeping Sofia entertained when the outside world fails to do so, coordinating cute outfits.
Things Sofia's brain is bad at: interpersonal relationships, remembering anything that Sofia did more than two seconds but less than two weeks ago, remembering anything that Sofia did more than five years ago, maintaining happymaking levels of brain chemicals without assistance.

ETA: Tell me I'm a bad bad man this is a bad bad idea.
sofiaviolet: welcome to bandom - no, you're not dreaming (bandom)
More for the Auriel Skippy's list:

13. I will not write band boys into Auriel in any context.

14. No, not even as unnamed background characters.

15. And certain not as things like a major character's roommate or coworker.

16. I am also not allowed to graft bits of their appearances or personalities or life stories onto otherwise original characters, because that way lies madness and eventual violation of 14 and 15.
sofiaviolet: the problem with reality is the lack of background music (background music)
I got a randomized line of text to show up between my journal title and info link! I can provide the code I used, plus the version that does this with images, if anyone wants it.

It only took me like two hours of fighting tweaking the code for random background images. Plus twenty minutes of typing 34 lyrics to be randomized.

\o/

As far as lyrics suitable for journal subtitles, Fall Out Boy beats My Chemical Romance - but there are still a lot of other bands' stuff to go through.

***

Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] memphis86 and [livejournal.com profile] sinsense!

***

I am supposed to be writing another poem for class, right? And instead I sat down and wrote lyrics. A full, complete song. Needs cleaning up like whoa and it'll still be ridiculous, but whatever. And there are other songs rattling around in my head. Other complete songs, way more than two clever lines and a title.

Apparently this is what I do when I get into a band or bands more intensely than usual. I wrote a lot of shitty lyrics when I was sixteen; over the summer I copied the least shitty parts into my journal so I could raid them for Stuff. And now I'm writing them from the ground up again.

Probably the wankiest, most self-indulgent, least reasonable kind of writing that happens to me. It's fun though.

^-^

sofiaviolet: welcome to bandom - no, you're not dreaming (bandom)
I am now in possession of one wristband for the signing. *glee* (Pictures of my outfit likely to come later, because it is awesome. I have three sartorial modes: jeans and a t-shirt, wishing I was a pin-up, and generalized anachronism. I default to the first, but I can look really cool if I put some effort into getting dressed in the morning.)

I haven't met [livejournal.com profile] blacksambuca and [livejournal.com profile] chopsticknoodle face-to-face yet because we were kind of far from each other in line, but we have talked on the phone, and I'll probably meet them later this afternoon.

Today has felt really rushed. [livejournal.com profile] chopsticknoodle called me a few minutes before I would have left anyway, telling me to get my ass over there because people were queuing up like mad. So I walked as fast as I could whilst wearing a really long and full skirt and a pair of docs, got fairly lucky with the T, and made it in under half an hour. Something like that will really color the rest of your day unless you make a major conscious effort to avoid it.

I'm now killing time in the library. I didn't bring my laptop to campus today because it weighs a ton and I'll be doing a lot of standing, so I'm using one of the iMacs in the computer lab.

Also, my allergies are freaking the fuck out. I've taken my Singulair and a benadryl and I'm still sniffly and spraying snot every time I sneeze (which is kind of often). Gah. I've still got two benadryl tablets in my purse, along with a few benadryl+decongestant, so I'm definitely going to take more so I don't snot all over everyone in line.
