sofiaviolet: wrought-iron fence and crumbling tomb in St. Louis No. 1 in New Orleans (so goth i hang out in graveyards)
Poetry workshop meets Tuesdays and Fridays.

Workshop schedule cycles through the entire class. Everybody gets 4 chances to workshop things.

My day is the first Tuesday of any given cycle.

A new cycle starts this week.

I have written ~600 words of New Orleans themed poetry for the occasion. And I will be wearing this.

*facepalm*

sofiaviolet: black and white EGL dress from Mary Magdalene (fashion)
So I was all proud of having packed my lunch yesterday, and then I forgot it on the kitchen counter.

Watched a documentary on Kinsey in my sociology class. Partway through the poetry workshop, my cell phone went off (random wrong number from New Orleans, like usual) - and that still wasn't the most disruptive thing that happened. Our resident Beat dashed in quite late, sat down, popped up again to zip his fly, and then class proceeded.

I made a new friend at Dress for Success. She's probably about my mom's age. Usually I get off the train at Copley and walk to Back Bay to go home, but I stayed on all the way to Park Street to keep talking to her. And one of the other volunteers had brought in her puppy. The first time I spotted it, I thought it was a stuffed animal, and then I noticed the toenails and realized it was a real dog. Tiny, exceedingly well-behaved, quite cute.

I did manage to remember my lunch today, and I need to eat it in the near future.

I also wrote 1300 words today. So far.

Up early enough to shower, dress nicely, pack bento (2, since one is full of salad and that is Not Lunch), and make extensive use of the internet! And I still have 10+ minutes to kill before I need to leave the house.

One of my brother's friends gave him a wifi detecting t-shirt. It lights up. I'm not even kidding.

My mom dropped her phone in the sink, but Dad took it apart right away and dried it out and it's working again.

FedEx says our package from home was delivered to the back door today. Uh, no it wasn't. It's either at someone else's house (fail, delivery guy) or someone stole it. And will probably be disappointed unless they actually wanted a shitload of peanut butter crackers that have probably been recalled, and other similarly inexpensive stuff.

Today I have written 1100+ words in a document called idfic. Urgh. Why can't I be inspired to work on something that doesn't make me cringe in embarrassment??
sofiaviolet: lol internets (lol internets)
me: And they have to pay people to, you know, get it right. Because if they don't, people die. And the internet breaks.
Hugh: And then people die in the ensuing riots. See, keeping the porn flowing is mission critical. Necessary to world peace.
me: We don't have world peace in the first place.
Hugh: Shush, you!
sofiaviolet: purple textures and dots (retrospective)
I have a small patch of dead pixels in the lower lefthand corner of my screen. :( Fortunately, it's in the middle of the Dock, near the Safari icon, so it's not like it really affects my computer usage.

But still. :(

Went shopping yesterday, because it was in the 40s and I was tired of being inside. I now own purple jeans, you guys. IDEK. Also, hot pink and black striped tights which claim to contain cashmere. Also also I almost bought these shoes in black, but I couldn't make up my mind, and I have another pair coming in the mail anyway. Maybe I will go back and get those shoes if the ones I ordered don't fit.

I also bought a pink umbrella with white polka dots (H&M always has cute ones, and they get squished to death in my bag on a fairly regular basis). And Georgina Westbrook has moved on from demanding that I buy her jewelry. Now I also have to buy her nice underwear. She was annoyed that there wasn't a matching bra. Fictional characters. /o\

Accidentally stayed on the train when they expressed it from Jackson Square to Forest Hills. Oops. I do that occasionally. Followed a girl out the Washington St. exit and walked home from there - it's not that far.

Stopped by the bakery. I asked for 6 French rolls. They had 5. At 9:30.

Bakery. >:[

Wonderful lecture today on ancient Egyptian religion - so of course I had a worldbuilding brainwave. This is going to be fun, for several disparate values of "fun."

Hm. Think I might take a nap.
sofiaviolet: a parcel wrapped in brown paper (package)
I haven't actually asked for anything yet, but I dig the meme. I might also reopen it later, once I get the first round done.

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me! My choice. For you.

This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:

- What I create will be just for you.
- I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
- You will receive your item before the end of the year (or sooner).
- You will have no clue what the item is going to be. It may be a painting. It may be a poem. It could be a piece of jewelry. Who knows?*
- I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

* If you have metal allergies, you should probably tell me, in the event that I want to make you some jewelry - I like you! I do not want you to break out in a weird rash!

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you have to repost this meme and make and send out five surprises of your own.

sofiaviolet: candy hearts from a prescription bottle (and the blue ones help me fall)
Guys. I am sick. DNW.

I suppose I should be grateful it's just a very sporadic cough and some sinus pressure and not what I had last January... on the other hand, there is probably still time for it to turn into a snotfest of epic proportions.

When I got home yesterday, I was planning to check my email and then take a nap. But instead, I sat down to reorganize all my beads and crap, and from there, I wound up making three pendants. And then ~2 hours had passed.

Then I made another one later in the evening. It doesn't match the other three at all, though. And it's also not finished.

It is probably a shitty idea to take Nyquil before class, but I am only going to take one gelcap and they come two to a blister pack. I took the other one before bed and didn't sleep any more heavily than usual. Woke up about an hour early, in fact. And the alternative is "possible coughing fit which interrupts someone else talking, me trying to sound intelligent about sociology, or Quiet Writing Time."

If it looks ugly in IE, I'm sorry.

4118 words! 1% done for the year, and a full day ahead.
sofiaviolet: a laptop, a notebook, and lots of pencils (writing)
Wrote 191681 words in 2008.* Not bad, although my goal was 300k.

Successfully completed NaNoWriMo. Managed an A in my writing class.

* Well, it was probably more than that, but I have no data for January, August, September, or October. Spreadsheet-keeping fail.

Official commitment for 2009 is 350k, over at [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout.

Actual personal commitment is more like 385-410k, depending on how hard I push myself during NaNo.

I have another spreadsheet. It has daily goals (1000 words, 2500 during November), and numbers show up in red when I'm running behind. I find it to be a very effective motivator.

I kind of fell off the face of the earth, there.

Parents are in Boston. We have been doing stuff together. Everything is shiny and awesome.

Doing [livejournal.com profile] getyourwordsout next year. 350k, here I come.

Wyrding Studios is having their end-of-the-year sale. Go buy shinies!

If you have tried to send something to sofiaviolet@sofiaviolet.com recently and it bounced, sorry. I'm a fucking moron and I accidentally deleted my MX records. /o\

Fixed now, though.
sofiaviolet: Hello Kitty in devil costume with pitchfork (Hello Kitty will eat your soul)
Since I'm going to put in a full day at the archives tomorrow (need to work extra hours to earn all of my allocated work study $$, but want to be done working by the time my parents get here), I thought I'd pack myself some food.

I filled two bento and it is still only:
* second breakfast (croissant in three pieces and three uber-decadent truffles)
* afternoon snack (frosted flakes)
* I-just-need-a-break-can-I-have-five-minutes snack (dried raspberries)
* commute snack (Rice Chex)

Methinks if I want to fit actual lunch into one of those things, I need to eat less voluminous foods.
sofiaviolet: 7-day candles (candles)
The power just went out, so I went up to check things out with the owners (last time, one of them had seen a transformer go boom), and then I came back and hunted up the lighter, and just as I got four seven-day candles lit...

... the power came back on. \o/

sofiaviolet: black and white EGL dress from Mary Magdalene (fashion)
In recent years, my family has developed a new way to buy Christmas presents.

Mom hands out the credit card number, and the kids order what they want. Within reason, of course. Because everyone in this family sucks at telling anybody else what's on their list.

I don't open the boxes unless it's clothes (which I need to try on to make sure they fit before it's too late to return them), or I ordered something I truly needed along with whatever else.

lol spoilers )

I'm supposed to give an 8-minute presentation to my history class tomorrow. When I twittered about it, I had a 20-minute presentation. I managed to cut it down to 10 so far, though. /o?

Finally, this is important: a student handed in a plagiarized assignment, concealed by feeding it through a website which somehow rewrote it so it looked like original work. I am one of the people tasked with trying to figure out what site this kid used. So what sites might a high school student be using to auto-reword a paper? I thank you, and my mother thanks you.

Edit: oh Toros

60683 / 50000 words. 121% done!

I took a little time to gloat to my mom.

I'm already thinking about next year. Not just next November, but all of 2009. I have some pretty ambitious goals (75k in November! 1000 words per day, every day!), but I think I can achieve them. Especially if I count everything that is creative writing. I need to give myself credit for the stuff I write that isn't going to make my parents or my professors proud of me. I'm going to count poems toward my 1000-word daily goals. I'm going to count Lightning War. If I poke it into my computer and it isn't a research paper or blog entry, then it goes into my little spreadsheet.

to do, lol college student edition )

:D I set another personal best today, too. 4126 words.

The power went out for a while. Apparently a transformer exploded. All fixed now, though. Also it is almost Thanksgiving and this is awesome even if my parents are not coming to visit.
