sofiaviolet: welcome to bandom - no, you're not dreaming (bandom)
There was this fic, and I cannot remember who wrote it or what it was called.

It's Frank/Gerard. Gerard is working in the city, and there's a cute guy he sees every morning on his commute (pretty sure it's a train, not a ferry). One of the guys winds up answering a craigslist ad from the other one, and they strike up this email friendship. Gerard eventually realizes that his train buddy and email guy are the same person, and he freaks out. Frank has been doing an internship and his final project or whatever is to put together a music showcase. He invites Gerard on the train and by email. Gerard dithers a lot but finally goes, and then there is the happy ending.

????? I really want to reread this one right now. Anyone have a link, title, or author name?

via [personal profile] charmian and [personal profile] the_shoshanna: LJ has been hacking your affiliate links. For at least a month, it seems.

Probably everyone reading this who cares already knows, but. Bob is no longer a member of My Chemical Romance. ;_; My mother cried when I told her, you guys, because she is One Of Us without the fanfic. This shit is not okay.

Arma Angelus - The Grave End of the Shovel, in case anyone wants it.

Look, I wrote stuff!

(The wall is actually a real place in my neighborhood, though [community profile] auriel is a fake place in my head. I walk past the wall every day. Maybe it will give me something I truly need, one day.)

All the MCR fans reading this journal have probably already seen [livejournal.com profile] morebliss's Gerard Way picspam/quotespam, but my mom hasn't. (We are crossing our fingers so hard that they play New Orleans in June, so I can take my parents.)

Speaking of my parents! They will be here on Saturday!! !!!!!!!

You guys. Bob owns a yarn shop. Eeeee! (Basically, this fic and Buy Handmade by [livejournal.com profile] jjtaylor are the fics of my crafty fangirl soul. Buy Handmade sustained me through "I'm going to learn to make SOMETHING, dammit" - which turned out to be jewelry - and sl1 k2tog psso is going to sustain me through "I'm going to learn to knit, dammit.")

Anyone got recs for a yarn shop in or near Boston? T-accessible is preferred, although Ellie has a car and can sometimes be bribed or badgered into driving me around.

Bandom edition. [Keep in mind that this meme is intended to highlight nifty content on Dreamwidth, so the list below is limited to people posting at least their fic/art/recs on dw.]

[personal profile] damned_colonial suggests implementing a Follow Friday meme on Dreamwidth. I think I will rec one journal, one comm, and one feed every week, unless someone has a better idea.

In my recent past:

Thursday, Ellie and I went shoe shopping. She didn't find anything and I really don't need any more shoes, so we just headed home again. I called [personal profile] solarcat from the train and she met me at Forest Hills, and we drove back to her apartment to watch Life on the Murder Scene. (You guys. Their faces, okay, their fucking faces. I do not know what it would take to pry me from this fandom.)

By the time I got home, it was midnight, and I still had to pack for my trip.

A bit late, but it's been a superbusy week for me. No time for posting.

Shopping from FBR's webstore seems likely to compromise your credit card info. :\

I don't think that's what happened with mine,* since the last time I bought anything from FBR was probably the pre-order for Viva La Cobra.

* A couple of weeks ago, I got a letter with a new debit card in it, informing me that there had been a security breach at some third party and they were issuing a new card just in case. (I was very annoyed at the time, but I've already got the new number memorized, so no big deal.)

Bandom post.

Fall Out Boy show last night was good. So glad I ran into [livejournal.com profile] insunshine, [livejournal.com profile] gigantic and [livejournal.com profile] 1001cranes.

Hey Monday were all right. I like Cassadee's voice, but only when she's singing. Metro Station were fun. I thought their setup was kind of weird. All Time Low were all right musically, but all signs point to them being douchebags, so no. Cobra Starship were tons of fun, as always, but Gabe really needs to stop touring for a while and take care of his voice, dammit. Fall Out Boy were pretty good, and they played a nice set. The screens kind of confused me, but I guess it's better than the fucking wall of fire they had last time I saw them (I was surprised that Andy didn't melt on that tour, tbh).

Just glanced at a picture of this guy I went to school with in New Orleans (ah, facebook, how useful you are), and he looks kind of a lot like Joe. Heh.

I love my job. :D Just throwing that out there.

podfic blatherings )

My alarm clock might not be broken after all. *stares at it suspiciously* I'll test it out tomorrow. And speaking of broken stuff, I really hope my mom replaces the CD player in her car before I come home. I want to give her lots of music for her commute! And listen to it with her while we drive to the mall/French Quarter/Magazine Street/grocery store/Elmwood/Taqueria Corona/Five Happiness/assorted delicious New Orleans restaurants.

music for my mom (also taking suggestions lol)
• Leathermouth
• Fall Out Boy (Folie A Deux, since she has their other albums already)
• Thursday
• Patrick Wolf

I am about 4000 words behind on my writing, but I feel pretty okay about it. Because writing is important, but so is having a life where I run into people I know and hang out with friends and leave my apartment. Besides, this weekend is looking quiet, so I can catch up some. And really, what's 4k, in the grand scheme of 410k?
sofiaviolet: drawing of three violets and three leaves (Default)
... and using subject lines:

1. Today is my mother's birthday.

2. I need to buy a new alarm clock. I somehow managed to break mine. :( I didn't even have it for more than a couple of months.

3. I am looking for podfic recs! I often have the opportunity to listen to my ipod at work, but I spend too much time fiddling with it whenever it plays a song I don't like, and I suck at playlists. But today I listened to [livejournal.com profile] inkjunket's reading of [livejournal.com profile] sevenfists's The Sky-High City and it was awesome. Just what I needed.

So, yes. Ur podfics, give them to me. Bandom preferred, but feel free to take this as an opportunity to recruit me into your fandom via ficcy goodness.

4. How much do I love Firefox's search capabilities? I found the links in #3 so quickly in my bookmarks/history.

5. I really need to import/upload/redo my tags and icons. But I need to catch up on writing even more.

Manually crossposted between sofiaviolet.dreamwidth.org and sofiaviolet.livejournal.com.
sofiaviolet: drawing of three violets and three leaves (Default)
... but there's no way I would be coherent. Suffice to say, I had a fucking amazing time, both nights.

I am liking my job so far, although I need to get them to schedule me for some more hours. So far, I have checked one collection against its finding aid (some stuff missing, and two extra things not listed), interfiled stuff in boxes of negatives (holy shit are those heavy; somebody is supposed to move that whole collection into smaller boxes, and it may fall to me), and helped hunt through another collection for two missing folders (not found).

And now about my classes. )
sofiaviolet: welcome to bandom - no, you're not dreaming (bandom)
I'm so looking forward to listening to that CFOB mixtape. If anyone reading this hasn't been able to download it, I can upload it.

Everyone and their mother has posted about Gerard's update, but here's the text again, mainly for the benefit of my mother.
lol overinvested )

There are still no pictures or video of Frank kissing that guy in Texas, which surprises me. I mean, I trust [livejournal.com profile] blondiusmaximus and all, but - pics or it didn't happen. Them's the rules of the internet.

Speaking of Leathermouth. September 7th and 9th. Also known as the night before I probably start my new job, and the night before classes start. Made of win/made of fail? (I am still going. Of course.)

lol u guise!

sofiaviolet: think happy thoughts (headfirst for halos)
My mom called earlier. She wanted to tell me she had watched My Chemical Romance on Fuse (or at least as much of it as she could, with a storm fucking with the satellite dish). Also (dramatization):
Mom: And one of my students? I swear, he could be Gerard Way's son.*
Sofia: *seal clap* OMFG really?
Mom: Yeah. The first thing I noticed was his hair, but his whole face...
Sofia: *choked giggles* Eeee.
Mom: I said to him, '[name], do you know of a band called My Chemical Romance?'
Mom: And he sighed. 'Yes ma'am, I know I look like Gerard Way.'
Sofia: I kind of want to ask you to take a sneaky cameraphone picture of him or something.**
Mom: When I get the yearbook, I'll show you.
Sofia: *glee*

* I demand fic. I don't know what kind of fic, though. A variation on INOK-verse seems to be the logical choice.
** My mom totally doesn't have a cameraphone. And won't until that's the only kind of phone available.

sofiaviolet: girl in purple dress carrying suitcase and walking down railroad tracks (travel)
I'm back. I really kind of want to do it all again.

I'm not sure I can explain what it was like. Not just the shows, the entire adventure. I never thought I could do it - too many strangers, not enough creature comforts, too much effort.

I don't know if I can muster any kind of "report." I got all the !!!!!!! out with the people around me. I saw some great shows and met some amazing people. The end.

May 6th - MCR in Philadelphia
May 7th - MCR in Philadelphia
May 8th - PATD in New York
May 9th - MCR in New York (with Hugh)
May 11th - PATD in Boston

I have somewhere to stay in New York (and obviously in Boston, I live here), but does anyone who will be in Philadelphia for either/both of those shows have spare crashspace? I am tiny, quiet, and definitely willing to pay my share.

ETA: Accommodations found. But friendly person with a car would be helpful, too. I may not be able to leave my stuff at the hotel before that first show.

sofiaviolet: xkcd: stick figure in front of computer and text: Late? It's barely 3am! (up late)
Have accumulated 132 plays of songs from the new MSI album. Today. And that's not counting the time I listened to the whole thing on their myspace.

Surprisingly good music for writing a three-essay take-home final. IDEK.

Speaking of which, take-home final is nearly done. I have to write a paragraph about Jews in Vienna, and a conclusion for that essay (compare attitudes toward Jews in Vienna, Prague, and Budapest), and then I'm done.

So my tomorrow will be waking up, finishing that essay, taking a shower, attempting to find erasers for Dad's pencil, going to UHCS and making an appointment with either my usual prescriber or the one she recommended because she doesn't work over the summer, going to the library and printing out my exam, and dropping it off.

Also, go tell me what to write! You can ask me for more info if you want. Because when I get home tomorrow, I'll be able to work on it! Aiming to have something postable by June.
