1) What is your favorite mode of travel? (Car, train, plane, etc).

I admit to being really quite fond of trains, but more "public transit" than "long trek by rail." I've also been on some great road trips, though I don't actually like cars that much. And planes suck, especially nowadays, so I only tolerate them for getting me from A to B really fast.

2) Where is the northernmost place you've traveled? The southernmost?

Northernmost: Somewhere in England! Possibly Oxford? (That is the point I used when checking latitude.) I am glad I actually checked, though, because otherwise I'd have put Winnipeg and that's a lie.
Southernmost: Orlando.

3) What is the last place you visited for the first time?

... uh. Silver Spring, Maryland! For Con.txt.

4) Of all the places you've traveled, which is your favorite?

Oh fuck you, I hate picking favorites.

England has the fortunate distinction of having been exactly what I needed at the time.

5) Where would you most like to travel to next?

New places? Well, there is the long-delayed family trip to Italy. More realistically, I already have plans to visit Grand Forks once more this year, and I have two trips to New Orleans after that.

Follow Friday bonus round! I am moving some of my feeds off my dreamroll (they tend to interfere with my reading in various ways), but if you are looking for new blogs to read, here are some recommendations, in handy dandy [feed profile] _feed form.

  • [personal profile] pseudomonas: DW-thataway
It runs through DW posts, finding LJ entries that have already been cross-posted or imported to DW, and for some subset of them based on things like their visibility, date, length, whether they contain polls, and so on, edits them so that their text is commented out (possibly with a snippet of the original post), adding a note saying that the post has been moved to such-and-such a DW post which is thataway.
  • [community profile] dreamwidthlayouts: Resources
If you have a link (On or off DW) that you feel will be helpful to those creating or using custom Dreamwidth layouts, please comment and I will add it to the list!

    DW culture question on friending
One of the interesting differences between DW and LJ is how "friending" here is split up into the two halves of "subscribing" and "granting access." While I know how it works in practice, how things work and the cultural norms surrounding those things can sometimes be very different, and I'm hoping that there are enough DW veterans lurking on this comm to answer: What is the cultural view here regarding subscribing to someone's journal without granting access to your own? Is it considered rude, something almost never to be done? Is it considered distancing, something you do only with people you want to read but are pretty sure you'd never be actual friends with? Is it considered a natural first step in the friending process? Or is it considered no big deal one way or the other?
    A Tale of Two Internets
This whole latest LJ kerfuffle has me thinking again about Web 2.0 in general. There really does seem to be a certain degree of polarization happening on the whole of the internet right now, and the LJ problem is a representation of how the "two internets" don't always necessarily mesh well, and how Web 2.0's current reign, while certainly not a BAD thing, isn't necessarily a wholly GOOD thing, either.
