sofiaviolet: a laptop, a notebook, and lots of pencils (writing)
Who else is doing NaNoWriMo? I am sofiaviolet! Go be my writing buddy.

I'm going to use NaNo to procrastinate on my epic history paper, and my paper to procrastinate on NaNo! Good plan y/n?
sofiaviolet: drawing of three violets and three leaves (Default)
I think I sprained my back. DNW.

On the bright side, I did get all my furniture arranged. Now I need to finish unpacking so I can use my desk (currently blocked by two large boxes) and close my closet door (I keep injuring myself - if it's not my hip against the door, it's an ankle or foot tangling with the futon). Also: posters and artwork!

I was going to post a shitty diagram of where everything is, but it was too hard.

I have a whole wall with absolutely nothing against it. My desk is in that corner, but it hardly takes up any room. Someone talk me out of taping up a whole bunch of paper and using it as a huge map of Auriel and environs or something.

And if you do enable me on the map thing, at least stop me from taking pictures and emailing them to my workshop with the subject line "underdeveloped setting what?"*

... It could be about ten feet wide, I reckon. What is wrong with me.

Sleep. Sleep fixes everything.

*More on this when I have time to write up something that makes sense.

Ten feeeeeeeeeet of paper, omfg. Needs moar cartography skillz.

Which sounds more correct?

But he was only as tall as she, and prone to slouching.

I am hoping my professor was trying to correct it to "she was" and just forgot to write in half of it. "She was," btw, will be my compromise between his wtaf correction and my increasingly-acceptable original.

My mother will be pleased to hear that I made a friend in meatspace. She is the other NaNoWriMo writer and fellow fandomer in my fiction workshop. We bonded over RPGs and our classmates' general fail at commas.

I have been encouraged to turn in a synopsis as my first thing for the entire class to critique, but I'm not going to get started on it until the professor emails us examples of what he's looking for. Which means I'm going to go to the library after class and print out my two existing drafts of a first chapter, so I can work without having to switch between windows.

Actually, give me your opinions!

Today's topic in Women's Studies is the social construction of gender. Where is my goddamn nailbat.

... okay, so I have about 50 minutes to kill.

I was a couple of minutes late to my history seminar because there was a funeral motorcade between me and the station. An epic motorcade. The first couple of cars made it through before the light turned red, and they kept going through the entire red light, the next green light, the red light after that, and almost all of the green light after that. Given how long I had to wait for a train once I did make it to Green, I'd say I missed one due to Motorcade of Doom. *sigh*

I need to finish writing my 3-or-fewer page scene for tomorrow. It would be tacky to work on it during class, and after, I'm just going to the library and printing. I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to be using these short assignments as a sandbox for longer works, but I'm doing it anyway. Efficiency, laziness, or a desire to get in an extra round of critique?

Help?

sofiaviolet: a classic tale of love, part-time jobs and public transport (this is in fact my life)
For once, I am being responsible and not procrastinating on homework! (Okay, I am using this assignment to procrastinate on other ones that will be less awesome.)

Fill in the blank for first year art students: "Hey, aren't you in Addison's _________ class?"

It should, if possible, be a large enough class that the (shy, not prone to people-watching or random chitchat) addressee could have been to class a couple of times and not noticed the speaker.

Or tell me if "Addison's class" could be specific enough on its own.

... but there's no way I would be coherent. Suffice to say, I had a fucking amazing time, both nights.

I am liking my job so far, although I need to get them to schedule me for some more hours. So far, I have checked one collection against its finding aid (some stuff missing, and two extra things not listed), interfiled stuff in boxes of negatives (holy shit are those heavy; somebody is supposed to move that whole collection into smaller boxes, and it may fall to me), and helped hunt through another collection for two missing folders (not found).

And now about my classes. )

I'm relatively unworried about my parents, even though they're not leaving town because Dad got declared essential after Katrina (apparently they need more computer people on hand during disasters). Ochsner is like a fortress.

Which frees me up to worry about other people, like some of you and the neighbors and people my mom works with and my mom's whole school and - crap, who am I forgetting?

I think my evening will be spent unproductively refreshing hurricane maps and trying to get rid of this headache.
sofiaviolet: welcome to bandom - no, you're not dreaming (bandom)
I'm so looking forward to listening to that CFOB mixtape. If anyone reading this hasn't been able to download it, I can upload it.

Everyone and their mother has posted about Gerard's update, but here's the text again, mainly for the benefit of my mother.

There are still no pictures or video of Frank kissing that guy in Texas, which surprises me. I mean, I trust [livejournal.com profile] blondiusmaximus and all, but - pics or it didn't happen. Them's the rules of the internet.

Speaking of Leathermouth. September 7th and 9th. Also known as the night before I probably start my new job, and the night before classes start. Made of win/made of fail? (I am still going. Of course.)

My computer did actually die of water damage. It just took two weeks for the logic board to fry all the way through.

So it's off for repairs, and I don't know when I'll get it back. I'm hoping for some time next week and fearing that's too optimistic.

I am checking my email once or twice a day, but I'm not going to be reading my flist until I get my own computer back. I'll try to catch up then, but no guarantees.

... oh, who am I kidding? Yes, I'll catch up, although it might take me anywhere from a couple of days to the better part of a week, depending on what else is going on.

ETA: Wow, I'm all kinds of dumb lately. I never actually posted about this. But yeah, in a stunning display of fail, I dumped about three ounces of water on my laptop on July 27th. It finally gave up the ghost on August 8th.

If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

Relatedly, that meme, where you paste your friendslist into a post and bold everyone you've met in person. Correct as far as I know; poke me if I messed up in either direction. (One username per person; art/fic/non-fandom journals removed from the list.)

my flist is kinda long )

I am at that point in packing where my room is a mess (well, even more of a mess than usual) and I can find ten thousand things I forgot I owned, but nothing I will need within the next two weeks. /o\

Help with PDFs?

sofiaviolet: drawing of three violets and three leaves (Default)
My dad needs to convert some PDFs into another format - all he needs is the info, no formatting or anything. Anybody know how to do this?

ETA: Solution found. New tech question: anyone else have trouble with Gmail forgetting that you've read/starred/deleted certain messages? I will deal with everything in my inbox, wander off, and come back only to have to deal with it all again.

Getting started on my day an hour later than I had planned. (Fuck you, migraine!)

Dyed my hair yesterday. I think that's why I had the initial headache - noxious fumes.

Also, I have figured out that the main trigger for my odd brand of migraine is Prior Headache That I Tried To Treat With The Wrong NSAID. /o\

Week in the Life Game:

For one week, you are to post photographs taken during the day.

Rules:
1. You must take between 6 and 8 new photographs per day. Fuck that.
2. Your WITL must be consecutive. No skipping days.
3. You must post your photographs at the end of that day, sometime after the last picture is taken.
4. Each photograph must have the time taken beneath and a title, with no other explanation.
5. You must post these rules at your first entry, then link back to it for the other six days so that people will know wtf you’re doing.
6. Your post must say “A Week in the Life of [your name/username], Volume [whatever day you’re on].”

This will be two Weeks In The Life, because I’ll be in New Orleans for two weeks.
