sofiaviolet: somehow that sounded better in my head (things generally do)

So apparently I lied about only making one post for Dress Your Best. That's just how the picture-taking shook out.

Today's outfit was originally put together as an example of "casual night out" - dinner at a restaurant and/or one of the less-glittery local theater/dance/etc. things I go to. Unlike my fancier (by which I mean sparklier) stuff, I can wear something like this all day.

Today's photos also highlight one of my favorite "oh shit it's cold" coping strategies for Boston's sudden weather changes: Add A Hoodie.

I went to work today wearing this:
complete outfit as-worn
Blazer: H&M
Hoodie: Sanrio
Shirt: Express
Jeans: Hudson, by way of Buffalo Exchange in Somerville
Shoes: Doc Martens

The shoes are hard to see - photo was taken in the hallway of the apartment (that's the bathroom door behind me) - but they're intended to replace my beloved cheap penny loafers from Target (I wore the first pair into oblivion, bought more on ebay, and then wore those until they died too). Today was my first time wearing these, and I think they need to be broken in, a little.

The hoodie (my Hello Kitty obsession, let me show you it!) was a last-minute addition to the outfit, because it was way too cold today for outfit-as-planned:
original outfit plan

I have learned the basics of wearing plaid in order to wear this jacket, which was an impulse buy last fall/winter:
1. Identify the colors that went into the plaid, and wear stuff that matches those colors.
2. Make sure that none of the non-plaid stuff clashes horribly with another non-plaid article of clothing.

So this contains (from most to least) black, red, blue, yellow, and white. I chose a red shirt and blue jeans - none of the photos really managed to capture how blue. (Previously, I've done black pants + blue sweater.)

The jeans are new, and they are the tightest pair of pants I own but can still wear (there's one pair I got from ebay that I really need to get rid of because they actually hurt to wear). These aren't my much-loved and much-abused concert jeans, but I think I'll add them to the narrow band of my wardrobe that I consider when dressing for that kind of thing.

And here's the top, which was clearly designed for bigger tits:
red top

I really need to somehow attach the crossover area of the neckline to itself, so it doesn't gap and show off my boob every time I make a significant movement of my right shoulder. (I spent my workday wearing the hoodie to cope with the cleavage problem.)

And for the most accurate jeans-color photo I have, and also THE LULZ:
I'm not even sure what I'm doing here - picking up my hoodie?

As you can see, I didn't really accessorize today - baby steps, people! - but I have plenty of red jewelry (the shirt does lend itself to one of the larger pendants from Wyrding Studios) and at least three purses that could work (the devil Hello Kitty bag if I need to carry a lot of stuff, a shiny red purse, or a faux leather black one). And it could probably do with a belt, but belts are tricky.

ETA: *facepalm* It helps if you upload the pictures before you post the entry. And also if you type the correct URLs. [No one saw that.]
