I find it hilarious that we're spending so much time debating self-checkouts because of Frank Iero's hatred for technology. For the record, I like the idea of self-checkouts, because sometimes I really don't want to deal with people. But the current technology is way too buggy to be very usable, and I have overcome my dislike of humanity to the extent that I can make nice with a cashier for a couple of minutes. I still use the self-checkout occasionally to see if it's improved. It usually hasn't.


More seriously, I appear to have broken Delicious Blog Posting/that php file that makes it work with LJ-based sites. Gah.

I had liked that because it made it easy for me to link things I found worthwhile. But it was lazy linkage - I didn't even do my own summarizing! I think I'm going to just have to suck it up and accept that there's effort involved.

I personally just love that Frank Iero bitches even more than I do, about a vast variety of things ;) And for the record, he's completely right about automated checkouts.

My only beef with automated checkouts is the bagging system. Silly me, I like to use my own bags, but this does not jive with their "ZOMG-PUT-THE-ITEM-IN-THE-BAG-NOW" mentality.

Yeah, that whole PUT IN BAG IMMEDIATELY thing scares me. I can't take one second to get the next bg open before the thing freaks out at me!

INORITE? I usually just dump all the stuff in the bagging area and wait to bag it until I've paid. Then again, I'm usually not buying much.

I like using self check-outs not because I don't like people, but because it's satisfying to scan something and hear that beep noise. My only problem is that they don't make the scales big enough to handle even a medium-small load of groceries. I was buying only about 15 things, and yet the amount of groceries caused bottles of balsamic vinegar and cooking wine to smash all over the ground when my lettuce betrayed me and pushed them off the scale. That was horribly humiliating. If the scale was bigger or allowed you to take things off after they'd been weighed (Or what if the cart was a scale? Ooooh!) I would use self check-outs all the time.

I do like using the ones at, like, Home Depot or whatever. But yeah, they suck for lots of reasons.

I am usually a-ok with self checkouts until I get one that keeps telling me I have something in the bagging area I need to remove. It's like "... yes, I know, those things in the bagging area are my purchases."

I am just too fast for its slow little silicon brain! It is just faster to deal with all but the most inept cashiers.

I have refused to use self checkout ever since it yelled at me because I put my bag down on it while I laid out my stuff to be scanned. I am not holding everything I already own while wrangling goods I need to pay for just because the computer doesn't like it.
