I fall asleep fine as long as I put at least two hours between pilltime and bedtime. Or, fine for me, which involves a lot of staring into the darkness and writing stories in my head. (If my insomnia was less productive, I'd hate it more. But it lets me work shit out in my head before I try and commit it to paper.)
I've taken melatonin before, to no effect. Also: valerian, massive amounts of Benadryl, Nyquil, etc. I had trouble sleeping even as a baby, so I've had a lifetime to adjust.
