I think we would have freaked out more if the bird hadn't been so thoroughly contained by the curtain.
Contractor begins fixing whatever the hell is wrong tomorrow. We think maybe the ceiling light/fan isn't hooked up to the vent properly. It would definitely account for the humidity damage to the ceiling (despite having a dehumidifier in the bathroom in addition to the fan) and could also account for the bird's ingress.
