I use the inbox a lot since I like to see what icons people are uploading, and track comment threads in which people are writing fic. So it seemed like a logical step for me. This, and having my own comments emailed to me, are the main reasons I still have a paid account on LJ (free users have pretty low limits for the number of things they can track at one time).
