No matter how many Apple laptops I break, it's still a million times better than Windows. (And I'm pretty sure I would suck at Linux.)

You break Apple laptops too? I thought I was the only one. I bought the one that I'm using off my mom maybe a year ago and it's falling apart. The screen is almost entirely detached from the rest of the computer. I don't know how to describe it properly...it's just...broken. My parent think I've abused it somehow but I really haven't. It's not like I purposely throw it around or anything. Though it has been knocked off my bed by my dog a few times.

We've been an Apple family since I was a child. It's the only type of computer we've ever had in the house. Whenever I use other makes, I get so confused. I feel like other systems are so convoluted. With Apple products things are simple plus their physical appearance is awesome. Sleek and clean, ya know? I kinda want to live in the Apple Store.

The hinge on the iBook that I gave to my brother is cracked but it's not affecting usability. My dad's Dell wound up with the screen connected to the rest of it by only the wires, though.

I don't do physical damage to the computers, I just suffer a shitload of hardware failures (the aforementioned iBook is on its third logic board, and my previous iBook died of a broken screen after four years). My Macbook works great and I'm hoping to keep it that way.

I remember Dad hauling Mac Classics and SEs home from work; the first Mac we owned was a Centris. *old skool* We didn't buy another computer until I was in sixth grade - grape iMac ftw.

Mine works as well, I just have to be really careful with it. I usually bring it with me on long car rides and I get a little paranoid when the roads are bad because the screen is so wobbly.

My only fear is losing the work that I have on my computer. I don't think it'll happen, but I know it could happen. It's rare when I actually take the time to back things up on a disc or jump drive.

I have no idea what we first owned but it was big and clunky. But then things changed and Apples because these beautiful machines. I lost my mind when the parental units ordered the blueberry computer. The shape, the color, the mouse! *loves*

I didn't get a gift when I completed my undergraduate degree but I'm hoping I'll get one when I finish graduate school in the summer. I'm asking for a computer. I'll pay for half of it, but I just really want another one.

Yeah, I've never lost data. I have deleted it through my own stupidity, though. *headdesk*

My parents bought my laptops (although I'm supposed to work something out with them about this one, because it wasn't necessary).

*sigh* The guys in Boston are apparently better than your average Apple repair people.

What kind of computer do you have? My brother's iMac G5 had a combination of a bad fan and power supply and was in and out of the shop until someone realized that both of those parts were busted and if you just replaced one, the other one would break the new part eventually.

iBook G4. It's gone back to AppleCare for the random shutdowns, they changed the logicboard, the monitor and pulled some RAM, saying that it was third party non-supported (when it was RAM I ordered in the laptop when I bought the thing, anyway, sigh) and sent it back after 12 days in California and it's still doing the same shit, only it's slower and randomly shutting down. They don't know what's wrong, my options are to send it back to California and let them dinker around with it for a few weeks when it's finals time Right Now or try to deal with the random shutdowns and losing information and fucking up all my system settings until term's over, then send it back to them to dinker around with for a few weeks. Can you see why I'm less than amused?

That's what I had - my brother's using it now. Mine didn't shut down at random, it kernel panicked at random (although more and more frequently the warmer the logic board was). They changed the logic board twice and the second time seemed to fix it. Why they had to do that twice, I'll never know.

I get better service from the Genius Bar than Apple HQ, but I think all the Apple stores in your state are about an hour away from you.

Gah. How many more days of finals for you?

Ahaha, true for most values of Apple products. The iMac that my mom wound up with lasted from April of 2000 until its screen gave up (some time within the past year, I forget exactly when). My iPod is over three years old and still trucking; the clicky wheel is having issues and the menu button basically doesn't exist any more, but there's nothing else wrong. My first iBook lasted for four years.

On the other hand, they pop out with seriously fucked-up hardware sometimes. iBook G4 (I once went to the Apple store five times in six days trying to get mine fixed), and whatever generation of iMac G5 my brother has (I believe it was in the first generation of G5 stuff, and that's why he refuses to be an early adopter of Intel Macs).

Yeah, I have to drive to Bethesda or Towson, neither of which is a picnic and not in this weather, let me tell you, and I know those Apple Stores, they're going to look at it and tell me it has to go to Apple HQ. That's their solution for everything.

I have 13 days left to get everything done, with something due on almost every day. So if I sent it in now, I'd have it back in time for...Christmas, with their current track record. *headdesk*

Dude, your Apple store guys suck. Mine are happy to do in-store repairs, and they'll tell me if they need to order a part.
