It's been a very uneven start of the semester for me - everything usually just feels kind of off (although I do have stretches of time where everything is going well and making sense, too).
So I've been doing so much ordinary stuff and feeling so weird so much of the time that I haven't been posting.
I'm going to try and attend the Louisiana Historical Association annual meeting, because there's a lot of things that mesh really well with my interests. I'll have to miss at least one class session (conference begins on Thursday, I have class on Thursday, sigh) - I'll talk to my professor tomorrow and see how to work it out.
Anyway, my classes this semester are The Required Technology Course, The Required Archives Course, and Collective Memory.
I had very low expectations for The Required Technology Course, but actually it's been pretty okay so far. I am the most experienced (or at least most confident) person in the class when it comes to web stuff, software, and so forth (but not hardware, because one of my classmates has built her own computer from parts, which I have never done). I will actually probably learn some stuff - mostly not whole new categories of stuff, but I'll be able to fill in the various holes I wound up with through teaching myself.
The Required Archives Course is okay so far. Everybody has to do an internship - I put my requests in earlier today. Either I get maps, or I get more maps, or I don't have to leave campus. (I am hoping for maps, of course.)
Collective Memory is really cool. One of my classmates gets on my nerves, but oh well. At least he's pretentious in a generally positive direction. We also have to do a group project. I am very meh on group projects but at least we all agree that Google Docs is the way to go and the professors give us class time to work in our groups. Also I actually like my groupmates so far. Our interests at least kindasorta overlap and we figured out a topic very quickly. *points to icon*
I have decided that from now on I should only take 9-12 classes. Any other time of day interferes with my work schedule and/or my ability to have a few empty blocks of time in my week.
